Alta Vista School
Constructed in 1917, the two-level red brick building remains a good local example of a rural school district’s commitment to provide the space required to offer its students a broader educational program than found in the one-room building it replaced.
The Lassie
The Lassie holds historical significance for its long-standing role in the commercial and social development of downtown Lamar, Colorado. Built in 1911, the building has housed a range of businesses including a grocery store, cobbler shop, thrift store, and women’s clothing store, each contributing to the area's growth. In 1947, Beverly Augustine opened The Lassie, a women’s clothing store that operated for over 70 years. Her leadership reflected the post-World War II expansion of women-owned businesses and made The Lassie a cornerstone of both commerce and community life in Lamar. The building’s period of significance spans from 1911 to 1995, marking decades of commercial use and Beverly Augustine’s lasting impact on the town’s history.
Lon and Tillie Filoon House
The 1909 Lon and Tillie Filoon House is an excellent example of a late 19th and Early 20th Century American Movement style house with Classical Revival influences. For many years, the property was granted a new life as a popular bed & breakfast named the Third Street Nest, but was closed by the owner in 2025.
