The Recreation Department offers a wide variety of recreation programs for all ages. The department's mission is to provide quality services and opportunities for recreation, leisure, sports, education, and cultural activities. Indoor activities are centered at the Lamar Community Building.
Membership includes usage of the gym, weight and cardio facilities, locker rooms, aerobic classes and walking track.
Seniors 55 years and older walk for FREE.

The Lamar Community Building is a 42,000 square foot facility with a superbly maintained gymnasium (seating for 1,495 people) and additional facilities:
- Fitness Center with Cardiovascular Area, Free Weight Room, & Aerobics Studio
- Walking Track
- Locker Rooms with Showers
- Dance Room, Conference Room, Dance Room, and two Meeting Spaces
- Full Kitchen
- Parks and Recreation Offices
- Community Development Office
- Vending Area
Additional Notes Include:
- Children 7 and under can enter for free if accompanied by an adult.
- Teens and youth 16 and under are not permitted in weight and cardiovascular facilities.

- To serve all age groups in the community.
- To provide a wide range of activities emphasizing arts and crafts, athletics, and fitness programs.
- To offer City facilities for meeting rooms, opportunities for conventions, banquets, sports tournaments and special events.
Quality programs are offered to the public at an affordable cost through effective partnerships with civic organizations and the private sector. Costs are also contained through the efforts of the community volunteers who contribute their time and expertise to many recreation programs.
