Lamar is OPEN FOR BUSINESS!
Enriching our community with business expansions, new businesses, better jobs, and population growth ensures that we are building a better tomorrow for the future. Community Development assists the City, its developers, businesses, and residents in identifying and targeting areas of growth and expansion in coordination with Lamar’s Building Department.
The Community Development Office works in tandem with the following departments and organizations to help you navigate challenges and capitalize on opportunities.
- Lamar’s Building Department
- Lamar Redevelopment Authority, Lamar’s Urban Renewal/TIF district
- Main Street Lamar, our accredited Main Street organization
- Lamar’s Historic Preservation Advisory Board
- Prowers Economic Prosperity, Prowers County’s economic development driver
The City of Lamar is currently administering a five-year $500,000 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfield Assessment Grant. The grant will sunset on September 30, 2026. A brownfield site is real property that the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance (such as lead-based paint or asbestos), pollutant, or contaminant. Eligible uses of this funding include:
- Inventorying, characterizing, and assessing sites to determine the presence or absence of contamination.
- Identification of redevelopment sites
- Redevelopment planning to identify feasible land uses
- 3D visualization to generate understanding of opportunities
- Cleanup redevelopment planning
- Community engagement
EPA’s Brownfields Program empowers states, communities, and other stakeholders to work together to prevent, assess, safely clean up, and sustainably reuse brownfields.
This is the City of Lamar's second EPA assessment grant. These projects lead to revitalization and redevelopment of contaminated properties and provide an exciting opportunity for the community to be involved in the visioning process. We encourage you to get involved and reach out with any questions!
Access Lamar's Prairie Crossroads Grant microsite for program progress.
