Lamar Fire Department

The Lamar Fire Department has seven paid and 27 volunteer firefighters.  The department responds to an average of 150 fire-related incidents annually. Our community is well protected with a very active fire prevention program as our fire inspector conducts an average of 450 public occupancy inspections annually. To educate on minimizing loss of life and property to fire, we are actively involved in fire prevention activities in the schools and at community gatherings.

The Lamar Fire Department responds to calls within the City of Lamar as well as city-owned properties in Prowers County. We operate out of three fire stations:

  • Station 1 is located at 505 South Main Street in Lamar and is the only fire station staffed 24 hours a day. It houses the department’s administrative offices as well as Engine 1, Quint 1, Engine 2, Rescue 1 and two ambulances.
  • Station 2 is located at 300 East Poplar Street in Lamar and serves as the department training center and houses Engine 3, Truck 1, Engine 4, Haz Mat 1, our water rescue PWC and two ambulances. It also serves as the fire station for all Prowers County Rural Fire Department apparatus.
  • Station 3 is located at the Lamar Municipal Airport and houses Airport 1.  This small truck carries twin agent foam and Class B powder for use in aircraft rescue and firefighting.
