Main Street Lamar

Recently, Lamar Partnership Inc. /LPI rebranded itself as Main Street Lamar (MSL), so residents know the organization's focus. You can follow MSL's page on Facebook to learn more about their initiatives, upcoming events, and recycling days. MSL is a Colorado Main Street Community managed and funded by the City of Lamar. It is responsible for promoting economic opportunities and community connections in Lamar’s Main Street district.

Corporate Cup is one of the main, annual events that is organized by Main Street Lamar. The 2025 Corporate Cup is scheduled for Wednesday, July 30th through Saturday, August 2nd. For more information, please visit the Main Street Lamar website.

March Common Grounds featuring the Building Department

During March's Common Grounds, the Building Department was the focal point. Chief Building Official Stephanie Strube and Joy Dashner, Building Department Clerk, provided an overview of their current and upcoming projects. Lamar City Council members, community members, and City of Lamar employees enjoyed coffee and donuts during the discussion. Stephanie reported that units at Sage Wind Apartments on the corner of Yucca Drive and South 11th Street are being rented, with more units to complete. She said that repairs are in progress for the fire damage at the Lamar Apartments, and the apartments located at 1010 S. Main are being fully renovated for the Casa Azteca staff.

Community Development Director Anne-Marie Crampton spoke about the city's comprehensive plan. Communications and Marketing Assistant Courtney W. Recio updated attendees on the City’s website and continued efforts to make the website accessible to all and compliant with the State Web Accessibility standards, WCAG 2.1 AA.

Common Grounds offers valuable opportunities to learn more planned and ongoing projects, as well as city-wide and departmental goals. Common Grounds is scheduled for the first Wednesday of every month and features different departments each month.

Join City Council and Lamar Public Library staff on Wednesday, April 2nd at 7:00 AM in the Cultural Events Center.

News

Community State Bank Body Armor Donation

The Lamar Police Department received a generous donation from Community State Bank on Monday, March 3, 2025. The $5,000 check was donated to the LPD for the purchase of new body armor. With a fully-staffed department and body armor that is "timing out," the donation will greatly assist the department. By helping ensure their safety and well-being, we empower our officers to continue their service to our community.

Wootten Public Safety Building

On Friday, February 28th, the City of Lamar closed on the 902 North Main Street property. The purchase will begin to address a longstanding need for additional police and fire facilities. Both the Police and Fire Departments have been constricted in the City Complex. While Fire & Ambulance Services personnel have a limited footprint for offices and living quarters, the Police Department has personnel and/or storage on every floor of the Complex. The Police Department also has leased space in multiple locations in Lamar. City officials attempted to design an additional wing for Police and Fire at the City Complex but realized that the project was financially impractical.
