This hourly, non-exempt position requires a basic knowledge of aircraft servicing and handling. The job includes varying amounts of fueling, ground support, and aircraft movement. Vehicle and facility maintenance and upkeep are routine functions.  FAA, OSHA, EPA, and other safety rules must be followed. Job duties will vary each day and are designated by the Supervisor in charge.

Hourly Range:  $17.15 - $23.44

CLASS TITLE:  Aircraft Service Attendant

 

ACCOUNTABLE TO:  Airport Supervisor

 

FLSA STATUS:  Non-Exempt

 

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:  Performs all maintenance functions of a commercial service municipal airport.  This hourly, non-exempt position requires a basic knowledge of aircraft servicing and handling. The job includes varying amounts of fueling, ground support, and aircraft movement. Vehicle and facility maintenance and upkeep are routine functions.  FAA, OSHA, EPA, and other safety rules must be followed. Job duties will vary each day and are designated by the Supervisor in charge.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE:

 

Perform aircraft fueling per City of Lamar fueling procedures, following all safety guidelines.

Responsible for accurate accounting of fuel transactions

Drives and services fuel trucks and ground support vehicles, and services aircraft and ground support vehicles with fuel, oil, and all other supplies and materials which may be required by the aircraft or vehicle; responsible for operating and filling of fuel trucks; cleaning, servicing, operating, and performing minor maintenance to this equipment

Uses safety related equipment and provides de-icing service to aircraft when needed

Perform daily Quality Control checks on equipment

Maintain equipment in clean and functional condition

Ensure the correct loading and balancing of fuel

Responsible for defueling aircraft as direct

Comply with attendance standards

Maintains compliance with all FAA, Federal, State, Local and City policies and procedures

Perform security functions of airport as delegated by the Airport Facility and Airfield Maintenance Supervisor

Other duties as assigned

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Work environment includes frequent exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and outdoor weather conditions.  Must be willing to work outside in all types of weather and elevated noise levels within the airport environment.

 

·         This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of lifting/moving or force and occasional lift, move or drag 100 pounds or more while performing essential functions of the job.

·         Ability to hold against nozzle thrust of 100 pounds.

·         Work regularly requires the ability to stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; balance, climb, stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; and speak and hear.

·         Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.

·         Acceptable verbal and conversation skills to effectively communicate with others in English.

·         Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

·         Ability to read and write English and interpret documents such as safety rules, material safety data sheets, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and so forth.

·         Ability to recognize occupational hazards in work activities and take safety precautions.

·         Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and following directions.

 

SUPERVISION – RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS:   None.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:    High School Diploma or equivalent and three years of experience in staff support, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 2 years related experience, Aviation experience a plus

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSAbility to obtain Airport Fire Fighting certification, as well as Airport Maintenance and Airport Security certifications.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

Possession of, or the ability to obtain a valid Colorado driver’s license.

Remain current all required certifications.

Must be 18 years or older

Must have authorization to work in the U.S.

5.      Skill in:  Operating and maintaining all assigned vehicles or heavy equipment including heavy mowing equipment, boom truck, vacuum truck, etc.

6.      Ability of:  Communicating clearly and concisely primarily in verbal form.

7.      Ability of:  Read, understand and interpret documents such as safety rules, FAA circulars, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc.

8.      Ability of:  Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

9.      Ability of:  Work the allocated hours of the position.  Must be available to work varied hours including weekends and holidays if needed

10.   Knowledge of:  Procedures, policies and operations within area of assignment.

11.   Knowledge of:  City employee handbook policies and procedures.
