How do I report non-emergencies? 

You may report non-emergencies by calling the Lamar Police Department Communications Center at 719-336-3977.

For general questions, please call the Police Department main switchboard at 719-336-4341.

How do I file a police report? 

The Lamar Police Department has jurisdiction only over incidents within the city limits. If you need to report an incident that has occurred outside city limits, please call the Prowers County Sheriff's Office at 719-336-3977, or the appropriate law enforcement agency for your area.

How do I obtain a copy of a report? 

Most police reports are not available until three working days after the initial filing.  A written request for a report must be made in person at the Police Department records section between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.  There is a fee of $1.00 for the first page and $0.25 for every page after.  There is an additional fee when requesting archived reports.  The Lamar Police Department Records section is located at 102 E. Parmenter.  You will be required to present personal identification when you appear and it will be helpful if you have the following information:

  1. Case Report Number
  2. Date, time, and location of incident
  3. Names, dates of birth, and any other information available about involved parties
  4. Name of the officer who made the initial report

How do I obtain information about registered sex offenders in my area? 

A written request can be made in person at the Police Department Records section 8:30 am- 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.  You will be required to present personal identification when you appear, and there is a fee. The Lamar Police Department Records section is located at 505 S. Main Street. You may also follow the link posted below the FAQ to view registered sex offenders who reside within city limits.  However, not all registered sex offenders can be viewed on the website and a written request must be made for those not listed on the website.

How do I obtain arrest information on an individual? 

A  written request must be made in person at the Police Department Records section 8:30 am - 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.  The Lamar Police Department Records section is located at 102 E. Parmenter.   You will be required to present personal identification when you appear.  There is a fee of $1.00 for the first page and $0.25 for every page thereafter.  There is an additional charge for archived reports.  You will receive all records of “Official Action,” which means any arrests/summons by the Lamar Police Department or the disposition for these arrests/summons. You will not receive information from any other agency or juvenile information.

Requests for statewide searches must be made through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation; contact the CBI at 303-239-4208.

How do I obtain Colorado driver's license information on an individual? 

The Lamar Police Department does not release driver's license information.  Please contact the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles for their policy/procedure on driver's license records.  In Lamar, the Driver's License Bureau is located at 3505 S. Main Street.

Where do I pay my ticket? 

You will need to read your citation carefully to determine if you may simply pay your ticket or if a court appearance is required.  You will also need to find out if you have been charged with a municipal violation or a State violation.  Lamar Police Department officers are authorized to cite citizens for either type of charge, depending on the circumstances.

If you have been charged with a municipal violation, you will need to pay your ticket at the City Clerk's Office located at 102 E. Parmenter.  If you have been charged with a State violation, you will either need to pay the fine indicated on the front of the summons, or if the ticket indicates “summons only,” you will have to appear in court at the Prowers County Courthouse at 301 S. Main Street.

How do I make a complaint about an officer or about a specific incident? 

Citizen complaints alleging misconduct by department employees can be initiated through contact with supervisory personnel or a sergeant by calling 719-336-3977 and asking for the appropriate personnel. 

How do I commend a Lamar Police Officer for a job well-done? 

Commendations and feedback from the public are welcomed at the Lamar Police Department.  You may notify an officer's immediate supervisor by calling 719-336-3977, or you may contact the Chief of Police.
